PRESS RELEASE ON THE JOINT EMERGENCY SAFETY DRILL FOR PETROLEUM AND PETROLEUM PRODUCTS ROAD TRANSPORTATION ON 21ST JUNE 2023

PIEA in collaboration with various stakeholders managed to undertake a Joint Emergency Safety drill for petroleum and petroleum products road transportation on 21/June/2023 in the adjacent road behind Moi International Kasarani Stadium. This was following the emergence of incidents relating to petroleum tankers along the Thika Superhighway such as the one that took place on 14/July/2022 between Roysambu and Githurai 45. The event was comprised of two back to back events (incident simulation and a public awareness and sensitization baraza on road safety).
The expected outcome of this exercise is to lay out importance of Highway Emergency Response Planning and adherence to the Petroleum Road Transport Adherence Code whose mandate is to ensure that petroleum road transportation safety elements are implemented effectively to minimize the risk of incidence, promote safer petroleum transport conditions and to ease compliance with the relevant laws regulations, highest operations standards and best practices.Download the full press statement here
