Capacity Building

The Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA) is mandated to build capacity within the energy industry by actively engaging with energy associations and key stakeholders across the East African region. Its primary objective is to promote the development and adoption of harmonized standards and best practices, aimed at enhancing industry efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability.

Become our  Member

The Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA) was established in 1999 by energy industry executives representing companies, agencies, and individuals with direct or indirect involvement in the Energy sector. Formed as a membership association for energy industry stakeholders, PIEA was created in response to the liberalization of the industry in 1994. Its founding purpose was to provide a unified platform to advocate for effective legislation, promote best practices and standards, and encourage self-regulation across the sector.

Our Core Strengths

We are committed to building expertise and fostering excellence within the energy industry across the region, through targeted training, stakeholder collaboration, and the promotion of industry best practices and standards.

A professional hub

The institution also supports the industry association—the Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA)—in fulfilling its core mandate of professionalizing the energy sector. This is achieved by delivering first-class, specialized training programs with a curriculum tailored to the downstream, midstream, and upstream segments of the energy industry.

In-House Courses

In-house courses are private, on-site training programs delivered at a location, schedule, and format of your choosing. By bringing our expertise directly to your premises, you save time and reduce costs, while providing your team with a customized learning experience tailored specifically to your organization’s needs.

Partnership training Programs

Develop and deliver a collaborative, competency-based program in Energy Management, Operations, and Maintenance, aimed at building human resource capacity for Kenya and the broader East African region. This program will focus on practical skills development, aligned with industry standards and tailored to meet the evolving needs of the energy sector across the value chain.
